My research interests primarily revolve around migration and urban transformation in contemporary India. I employ an analytical framework that draws on critical geography and political economy while looking at these two issues.
1. Migration
I attempt to understand migration for manual work from North and North eastern India to Kerala in relationship with changes in capitalist landscapes and deployment of state power. How are movements of people connected to changes in surveillance practices? How are social security systems and agendas bound up with regulation and restriction of movements even within a country? These are some of the questions with which I grapple.
2. Urban transformation
I am specifically interested in the change of small cities in India and the dynamics of their economic and social transformation. I seek to trace the trajectories of their change by examining stories of land, entrepreneurship and labour and see how these compare and contrast with narratives of cities elsewhere and received wisdom on urban change in South Asia.

2007 Won the Antipode Doctoral Student Scholarship 2007-2008 for students working in the field of radical geography instituted by ‘Antipode- A Radical Journal of Geography’.
